Finance Associate

General Overview:  Serving as a key partner for the Future of Privacy Forum management team, this position will be responsible for a number of financial management tasks relating to FPF’s day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable processes in partnership with an outsourced accounting firm. This is a full-time position based in the Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping and Accounting
    • Act as the primary liaison with accounting contractor to coordinate accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
    • Receive, code, and track accounts payable in Bill.com, including vendor payments and travel and expense reimbursements
    • Handle daily cash receipts and processing of member contributions
    • Support accounting contractor with monthly financial close activities as needed
    • Assist in preparation of 990s and related tax documentation as needed
    • Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as assigned
  • Member Contribution Management
    • Issue invoices for member contributions and follow up regularly to ensure collection
    • Complete vendor registration as required by members’ procurement processes
    • Reconcile deposits with invoices on a weekly basis, working closely with the Member Services Director
  • Audit Support and Budget Management
    • Assist with preparation of annual organizational budget
    • Support grant budgeting and reporting efforts
    • Prepare regular financial reports by department, grant, and/or special project for project managers and senior staff to assist in budget management
    • Support accounting contractor in managing annual audit

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience in financial management in the nonprofit sector
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with applying GAAP
  • Experience with the following: Excel, Intacct, Bill.com, Nexonia, and Salesforce
  • Strong communication skills, professional presence, and personal initiative
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
