The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for privacy scholarship and advancing principled data practices in support of emerging technologies, including ethical artificial intelligence development and use. FPF’s U.S. Legislation team conducts in-depth research and monitors legislative developments at the federal, state, and local levels in areas such as consumer data privacy, biometric technologies, and artificial intelligence. The team analyzes laws and proposed bills, identifies key issues, and assesses their potential impacts. They provide education on the implications of various legal approaches and offer recommendations for crafting effective legislation. Additionally, the team engages with FPF member companies, civil society advocates, academics, technologists, and other stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive understanding of complicated laws and regulations, as well as legislative and regulatory proposals. FPF also serves as a neutral convener of the Multistate AI Policymaker Working Group, comprising over 200 state lawmakers from over 45 jurisdictions, to foster a shared understanding of AI technologies and related policy issues.
