Overview

Japan is at a defining moment: with the on-going development of Cabinet Orders and Personal Information Protection Commission rules following the recent amendments to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and the AI Promotion Act fully in force, the country is building an integrated framework that strengthens accountability while enabling responsible data access and use for AI.

Over the past few months, in partnership with the Future of Privacy Forum and Accenture Japan, the Open Loop team has worked with a consortium of local and international companies, alongside a group of experts from business, legal, academic, and think tank communities. Through surveys, interviews, and expert group convenings, the program has generated practical insights on the real-world application of Japan’s evolving digital frameworks.

This event will launch the program’s final report, sharing insights from participating companies and offering evidence-based recommendations for stakeholders as Japan’s AI governance and digital policy approach continues to develop. The main plenary runs from 14:00 to 16:00 (JST), followed by an optional networking reception. It will bring together participating companies, policymakers, academic and industry experts, and industry associations.
