The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for privacy leadership and scholarship, advancing principled data practices in support of emerging technologies. FPF brings together industry, academics, consumer advocates, and other thought leaders to explore the challenges posed by technological innovation and develop privacy protections, ethical norms and workable business practices. Headquartered in Washington DC, FPF also has offices in Brussels, Singapore, Tel Aviv and presence in Nairobi and New Delhi. FPF’s Global Privacy team closely follows developments around the world in data protection and privacy policy-making and regulation, supported by our colleagues in Washington DC, Brussels, Singapore, Tel Aviv, Nairobi and New Delhi. We keep our stakeholders informed of relevant regulatory changes, case-law, guidance, policies, and legal requirements, while also providing background and in-depth analysis in order to support them in being ahead of key developments globally.
As a Global Privacy Intern you will work in the Washington, DC office of FPF, and report to the Senior Counsel for Global Privacy or the Policy Manager for Global Privacy.
ROLE OVERVIEW
FPF is seeking a Global Privacy Intern, based in Washington, DC, to assist the Global Privacy team in cross-border projects. You will work closely with colleagues based around the world, in addition to the team based in Washington, DC, and contribute to global policy research and analysis in data protection, privacy, and new technologies.
The ideal candidate would bring to the team:
- Excellent writing skills and an ability to curate information based on independent research skills;
- Experience or previous participation in professional or volunteer activities, as well as subject-matter expertise in policy areas relevant to FPF’s work;
- Demonstrated interest in and good knowledge of data protection law, and familiarity with its application to new technologies, including Artificial Intelligence;
- Interpersonal qualities that show support for colleagues, peers, and the broader community;
- An ability to work in a highly collaborative and diverse project-team environment, with colleagues from different jurisdictions and backgrounds.
The vacancy is for a temporary 3-to-4-month-long contract, full time at 40 hours/week, pending your availability. Preferred start date is May 15, 2024. Applications are due on April 15, 2024.
This is a paid internship, with a stipend of 2,500 USD per month. The internship is based in our Washington DC office, and it is hybrid (a minimum of two days per week are required in the office).
