The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is a global non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for privacy leadership and scholarship, advancing principled data practices in support of emerging technologies. FPF is an organization at the forefront of global thought leadership in the privacy and data protection space, understanding and explaining legislative trends, regulatory action and best practices related to processing personal data and emerging technologies, across key jurisdictions. Coordinated from its headquarters in Washington DC, FPF has offices in Brussels and Singapore, as well as a network of experts and partners in Kenya, India, and Brazil, with a long term view of expanding our global presence. To develop its global perspective and contribute to the comprehensive understanding of privacy and data protection trends across the world, FPF is engaging with a vast array of stakeholders, including international organizations, researchers, regulators, privacy practitioners (in house and outside counsel, privacy engineers, and technologists), advocates, and policymakers.

General Overview: 

FPF is seeking a part-time consultant to support a project on privacy and AI governance in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, with a specific focus on Japan. The main goal of the project is to gather, synthesize and sense-make primary research on approaches to data protection and AI governance from a diverse range of stakeholders. An ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of data protection law and AI governance frameworks in the region, a familiarity with relevant industry stakeholders and experts in Japan, and experience implementing semi-structured interviews and other primary and secondary research methods. Professional working proficiency in both English and Japanese is a must for this role.

This role is for a fixed-term contract with an expected duration of 6 months starting ASAP. The consultant is expected to dedicate around 25 hours per week towards support for this project, and related work for the FPF APAC office (based in Singapore).
