FPF Releases Issue Brief on Navigating Cross-Border Data Transfers in the APAC region: An Analysis of Developments from 2023 to 2026
In September 2023, the Future of Privacy Forum’s (FPF)’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) office published an issue brief, “Navigating CBDTs in the Asia-Pacific Region,” that summarized key developments in the regulation of cross-border data transfers (CBDTs) across the region between 2021 and 2023.
This Issue Brief serves as an update to the 2023 publication, analyzing the most significant developments in CBDTs across the APAC region in the three years since. It follows the structure of the original brief, providing a concise background, an updated analysis of regional trends, a comparative table of CBDT frameworks, and a detailed appendix of jurisdiction-specific developments. All specific details of bills, laws, provisions and other documents referred to in the concise background and the analysis of regional trends can be found in the country reports included in the appendix. For a comprehensive overview of the foundational transfer mechanisms discussed, readers are encouraged to refer to the original 2023 Issue Brief.
