Privacy Executives Breakout Sessions

Topic 1: U.S. Legislative and Regulatory Enforcement
This discussion will cover topics related to investigations or enforcement actions by state and federal agencies, attorneys general, or other relevant bodies. The conversation will explore regulatory themes and trends, lessons to be learned, and allow participants to share relevant best practices.

Topic 2: Sensitive Data, High-risk Users: Health, Young People, and Biometrics
This session will discuss regulatory frameworks with special protections for certain categories of “sensitive data,” including laws like those styled after Washington State’s “My Health My Data” Act. Many privacy laws often provide additional limitations for these categories of data, including protections related to data flows, including global and domestic transfers of data, and data-driven inferences. The conversation will provide space for participants to ask questions and hone in on the areas of interest related to recent regulatory, legislative, and legal happenings.

Topic 3: Commonalities and Differences in Global Digital Laws
This session will map out similarities and differences amongst the avalanche of new digital regulations around the world, from tackling online platforms to AI to sectoral data sharing, to comprehensive data protection and privacy laws. It will provide an opportunity for Privacy Executives to share scenarios of tensions among various legal obligations and to share concrete ways of navigating this new digital regulation landscape.

Topic 4: What Do You Need to Do Differently to Adapt? Removing Blockers to Privacy Team Success

This session will discuss how to tackle the challenges privacy executives are facing and explore solutions to address the rapidly changing environment. Our facilitator and group will address the problems and behaviors affecting privacy teams and how to navigate these for success.

Privacy Executives Breakout Session 2

Topic 1: Global Regulatory Environment – Priority Challenging Jurisdictions and Emerging Concerns
From a refocus on consent in data protection laws, such as India’s DPDPA, and in new legislative regimes, like EU’s Digital Markets Act, to new AI laws and bills – like the EU AI Act, Brazil’s AI Bill and Canada’s AIDA, to a vibrant state legislative activity in the US – the digital regulatory landscape is shifting significantly around the world while gravitating around existing privacy programs. This session will share best practices on how to keep track of developments that matter. It will also aim to stimulate discussion on practical tips for Privacy Executives about how to build effective global compliance programs.

Topic 2: AI Impact Assessments and Your Privacy Program: Integrated, Complimentary, or Something Else?
This session will discuss the rise of the AI Impact Assessments as a tool for both regulatory compliance and responsible AI. The session will also discuss broader aspects of  AI governance, including how AI is handled at the organizational level and how you are handling AI Impact Assessments in your organization in conjunction with existing or evolving Privacy programs.

Topic 3: The Developing Privacy Executive Role
A number of leading companies have recently eliminated the Chief Privacy Officer and shifted the responsibility to legal, risk, or compliance. As broad consumer data becomes a highly regulated sector, how will leadership roles around privacy change? As countries from Europe and beyond create multiple layers of strategic data regulation and information governance, how will this broaden the privacy role? How will AI regulation and priority of AI strategies at companies expand or threaten the Privacy Leadership role?
