Overview
The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and the FPF Center for Artificial Intelligence invite you to join us for a live virtual webinar on Thursday, November 21 from 12:00 – 1:00pm ET to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Privacy Act of 1974.*
We will explore the significance of the milestone U.S. law that created safeguards for information maintained about you in federal “systems of records,” how and why it was passed, the extent to which it remains effective today, and the lessons it may hold for our modern debates in the United States about both commercial and government uses of AI.
We will be joined by guest experts:
- Pam Dixon, Founder and Executive Director of the World Privacy Forum and Delegate for the OECD
- Bob Gellman, Privacy and Information Policy Consultant
- Peter Winn, Director, Office of Privacy and Civil Liberties, and Acting Chief Privacy and Civil Liberties Officer, U.S. Department of Justice
Moderated by Stacey Gray, Senior Director for AI, FPF Center for Artificial Intelligence
* Fifty years ago on this date (November 21), the United States Senate passed Senate Bill 3418, as reported by the Committee on Government Operations (now the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee). The bill went on to pass both chambers, and was signed into law by President Ford by the end of 1974.
