FPF has long supported federal comprehensive consumer privacy law. We believe that both businesses and consumers will gain from one clear standard that provides consumers with needed protections and provides industry with certainty and guidance.

Computers Privacy and Data Protection conference  (CPDP) kicks off this week in Brussels, and the theme this year is “The Internet of Bodies”. The conference will gather 400 speakers for 80 panels to set the stage for the privacy and data protection conversation in Europe for 2018. And this is such an important year for data protection – not only the General Data Protection Regulation becomes applicable in May, but also the text of the new ePrivacy Regulation will likely be finalized.

Washington, DC – Today, the Future of Privacy Forum announced the winners of the 8th Annual Privacy Papers for Policymakers Award. The PPPM Award recognizes leading privacy scholarship that is relevant to policymakers in the U.S. Congress, at U.S. federal agencies, and for data protection authorities abroad. The winners of the 2017 PPPM Award are:

How has the growing trend of global financial data localization laws affected financial institutions handling difficult questions of data privacy? What have been the practical impacts of these laws? FPF addresses these questions in a new info-graphic: “Financial Data Localization: Conflicts and Consequences.”

FPF offers up-and-coming privacy professionals fellowship opportunities, often giving college graduates experience in the privacy world. In this post, we will take a look at some of FPF’s former employees who have gone on to impressive privacy careers.

The Future of Privacy Forum conducted a study of the companies enrolled in the US-EU Privacy Shield program and determined that 114 European headquartered companies are active Privacy Shield Participants. These European companies rely on the program to transfer data to their US subsidiaries or to essential vendors that support their business needs.

FPF’s Vice President of Policy, John Verdi, attended a meeting with Věra Jourová, the European Union’s Commissioner for Justice, Consumers, and Gender Equality. The meeting between EU policymakers and US civil society groups focused on an open, robust discussion of trans-Atlantic privacy issues, including the US/EU Privacy Shield program.
