Juneteenth
FPF is closed for Juneteenth as our staff reflects on both the history and current state of racism in America. Our social media accounts will be silent, other than to elevate voices that can help us learn and take action on issues such as equity and inclusion.
In that spirit, we would like to call attention to the work of Professor Ruha Benjamin and her book Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code. The FPF Privacy Book Club was honored to learn from Professor Benjamin this week and we invite you to watch the video and order her book. We found it to be a thought-provoking commentary on how emerging technologies can reinforce white supremacy and deepen social inequity. We would also like to call attention to 15+ Books by Black Scholars the Tech Industry Needs to Read Now, posted by the Center for Critical Internet Inquiry at UCLA.
