Please join the Future of Privacy Forum for the second session of its Immersive Tech Panel Series, examining the new privacy risks and policy questions that arise when immersive technologies are integrated into domains like health, advertising, transportation, AI, and education. 

The second virtual panel will focus on Advertising and will be held on TuesdayAugust 22 from 11:00 AM ET to 12:00 PM ET. 

Join us for a discussion of the challenges and opportunities posed by new business models  and technologies to deliver advertising using emerging immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). How will consent be collected and documented in immersive environments? What technologies will be used for data sharing and sale? How will measurement and attribution operate? Will immersive technologies introduce new forms of deception or dark patterns in advertising? What other technical and policy challenges must be addressed for immersive technologies to grow? This event will provide valuable insights and guidance to professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in exploring the intersection of immersive technology and advertising.

Jameson Spivack

Senior Policy Analyst, Immersive Technologies, FPF

Jameson Spivack is Senior Policy Analyst, Immersive Technologies at the Future of Privacy Forum, where he leads FPF’s emerging work on VR, AR, and other related technologies. Previously, Jameson was an Associate with the Center on Privacy & Technology at Georgetown Law, where he worked on research and policy advocacy related to algorithmic technologies like face recognition in the criminal legal system. Prior to this he worked in communications for an international development nonprofit. Jameson received his M.A. in the Communication, Culture & Technology program at Georgetown University, and his B.A. in Government & Politics from University of Maryland.

Mark Brennan

Partner, Hogan Lovells

Mark Brennan leads the global Technology and Telecommunications industry sector group at Hogan Lovells. He is also the Lead Innovation Partner, responsible for championing innovation in client service, new products, and legal innovation across the firm’s global business.

Mark has a truly unique global regulatory and policy practice that makes him a valuable resource across industry sectors. An experienced advisor, Mark is a respected voice on privacy and communications matters. He advises on artificial intelligence, online content (including Section 230), market entry and licensing, spectrum policy, biometric data and facial recognition, Internet of things, U.S. CLOUD Act, cloud services, calling/texting laws, and other technology and consumer protection matters.

Gabe Maldoff

Associate, Goodwin

Gabe Maldoff is an associate in Goodwin’s Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice. He provides a global perspective on privacy, data protection, and technology law issues, drawing from his experience practicing in the UK, US, and with an international think tank.

Gabe is also an Adjunct Professor at Maine Law School where he teaches a course called Global Privacy Law. His research on US, Canadian and European privacy and national security laws has featured in journals in the US and Europe. He currently serves as a member of the Arbitration Panel for the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework.

Aaron Massey

Technologist and Senior Policy Analyst for Advertising Technologies and Platforms, FPF

Dr. Aaron Massey joined FPF in August 2022 as Technologist and Senior Policy Analyst for Advertising Technologies and Platforms. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). His academic research focused on computer security, privacy, software engineering, and regulatory compliance in software systems. Aaron is a recipient of the Walter H. Wilkinson Graduate Research Ethics Fellowship and a recipient of a Google Policy Fellowship. Before UMBC, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgia Tech’s School of Interactive Computing. Aaron earned a PhD and MS in Computer Science from North Carolina State University and a BS in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of the ACM, IEEE, IAPP, and the ACM’s US Technology Policy Committee.

Emily Yu

Senior Director, Product Counsel - Legal, Roblox

Emily Yu is the Senior Director, Product Counsel – Legal at Roblox. Prior to joining Roblox, Emily was a Senior Corporate Counsel of Global Privacy at Seagate Technology and a Global Privacy Manager at TRUSTe.
