Alex Rosenberger is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Future of Privacy Forum’s Center for Artificial Intelligence, working on AI governance, data protection, and privacy. He brings both technical and policy experience to this work, having worked across the AI lifecycle from system development to policy design. Alex works with FPF members to navigate emerging challenges in AI governance and risk management, build consensus on best practices, and contribute to technical standards through groups such as MLCommons and the NIST AI Consortium.
Prior to joining FPF, Alex served as Assistant Director for AI Policy and Strategy at the National Security Agency, where he led agency-wide AI policy coordination and advised NSA’s Chief AI Officer on strategy and governance, helping build the agency’s AI Office. He began his NSA career as an AI Governance Fellow in the Civil Liberties, Privacy, and Transparency Office, then worked as a data scientist developing AI systems and running day-to-day operations of the agency’s AI risk evaluation process. He also led a team that developed evaluations to assess AI capabilities in cyber domains. Before entering government, he worked in data engineering in healthcare and conducted graduate research in applied machine learning.
Alex holds an M.S. from the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he was an NSF CyberCorps Scholarship for Service recipient, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Eastern Illinois University.
