Maria Badillo is a Policy Counsel on the Future of Privacy Forum Global Privacy team where she follows and analyzes privacy and data protection developments in key Latin American jurisdictions. She also collaborates on FPF’s ongoing projects related to international data transfers, the intersection of competition and data protection law and other global privacy key issues.

Maria obtained her law degree from Centro de Investigacion y Docencias Economicas (CIDE), in Mexico City. She has post-graduate studies in Privacy and Data Governance at CIDE and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Technology Law and Policy from Georgetown University Law Center. During her time in Georgetown, she served as a legal extern to the Federal Trade Commission with the Office of International Affairs, gaining insight and experience in multilateral cooperation between agencies regarding consumer protection in the digital economy. In addition, Maria collaborated with Georgetown faculty members as a research assistant on adequacy requirements regarding cross-border data transfers.

As a practicing lawyer in Mexico, Maria served as an Attorney Advisor on the Board of Commissioners of both the competition and telecommunications federal agencies. During her time at FPF, Maria looks forward to providing expert insight on data protection and privacy issues in the context of the digitalized economy, with a special focus on the Latin American region.
