Darren Grayson Chng is a technology lawyer who combines legal expertise with technical knowledge and policy insight, to navigate complex regulatory challenges and drive pragmatic solutions. As Regional Data Protection Director at Electrolux, he leads privacy and related AI compliance across Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, while co-developing group-wide privacy and AI governance policies and processes.
His unique perspective stems from having worked across multiple sectors of the privacy landscape. At Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission, he led key policy initiatives on cross-border data flows, data sovereignty, and children’s data, while advising on the use of data in emerging technologies. He also led advice on the UK’s data adequacy assessment of Singapore, and China’s applications to join the DEPA and CPTPP.
During his tenure at Integrated Health Information Systems (now Synapxe), he was lead counsel for various national healthcare IT systems, and played a crucial role in the organisation’s response to Singapore’s worst cyber attack.
A dual-qualified lawyer in Singapore and Australia with a background in Information Technology, Darren currently serves as an Expert for the OECD on Data Free Flow with Trust, and holds multiple privacy, AI, and cybersecurity certifications including CIPP/A/E/US/C, CIPM, CIPT, AIGP, and CCSK.
